About Me

My name is Kat Hughes and I have been writing about movies for the last ten years, mainly writing for entertainment website THN. Although I cover a range of projects my heart lies with the horror genre, with FrightFest being a highlight of my calendar year.

Film has always been a massive part of my life growing up. As a child I watched Labyrinth, Gremlins 2: The New Batch, The Terminator, Terminator 2: Judgement Day and Aliens on repeat. This passion led me to study Media Production at The University of Lincoln where I produced several short films on very limited student budgets.

My career has seen me transition from Blockbusters and Cineworld, to time working for both Lionsgate and eOne. Having had a child in 2018, I left eOne behind and I am currently focusing on writing full-time. Since then I have had by-lines with Arrow Video, Dread Central, Film Stories, Screensphere, Movie Marker, The Companion, and Certified Forgotten. I have also contributed essays and featurettes to physical media releases from Vinegar Syndrome, Second Sight and Arrow Video.

In addition to writing, I am also an experienced moderator and previously hosted the UK premieres of films including Terrifier 3, Mother of Flies, Magpie, The Daemon, South of Hope Street, Redux Redux and many more.

I am a Rotten Tomatoes approved critic as well as a voting member of the OAFFC, GALECA and OFCS.

The aim of this site is to provide an online archive / curation of some of my favourite pieces of work.
