Bluey’s Dad aka Dave McCormack Talks to Movies with Mummy

In this weeks episode of Movies with Mummy, myself and my daughter Aurora discuss the latest two episodes of children’s show Bluey. The two episodes, Ghostbasket and The Sign are the final two in the popular show’s third series.

In a change up to tradition, The Sign is a super long episode, clocking in at just under thirty minutes, instead of the usual seven. The Bluey episode packs these extra minutes with all the usual fun and frolics, alongside a significant emotional gut punch. The blending of humour and pathos has become the show’s signature brand, and this final episode sticks to its successful formula.

Originally written off as more distraction fodder for the kiddies, grown-ups quickly realised that Bluey had plenty to offer them too. Amongst all the silliness is a show that speaks to parents on a whole other level to other family programming. In Bluey and Bingo’s mum and dad the parents have a support network and kindred spirits. Bluey is unafraid to highlight the more demanding and stressful aspects of raising children and this move has seen it become universally adored across all ages.

A couple of years ago I was able to speak with Melanie Zanetti who voices Chilli Heeler at FrightFest of all places. Mel was in attendance with genre movie Raven’s Hollow. During out brief media wall chat we had to talk Bluey and can be viewed in its entirety below:

For this week’s episode of Movies with Mummy, myself and Aurora were granted the opportunity to complete the parental set as we spoke to Dave McCormack aka Bandit Heeler. Dave very generously answered questions that Aurora thought up and sent his recording back to us. You can hear his thoughts on voicing the best dad on TV, living in Australia and why Bluey is so successful on Spotify, Apple and many other podcast providers.

New Bluey episode The Sign airs globally from 14th April 2024.
