Appearing on a podcast has always been on my bucket list, but it was this year that I decided to make it a reality. I have been fortunate to find several shows willing to take a chance on me and let me talk about all things movies, and honestly, I wish I’d plucked up the courage to start doing this years ago.
Links and a little info on the podcasts you can find me on are listed below (in order of most recent to oldest).
What a Scream
Ygraine Bright invites guest on to discuss two films from a randomly selected horror topic. My randomly generated topic was ‘Terror from the Deep’ and we spoke about Sea Fever and The Creature from the Black Lagoon.
Caged In: Coppola Connections
Hosted by Petros Patsilivas Coppola Connections is a continuation of Caged in, a podcast which saw Patsilivas watch every Nic Cage movie. For the twenty-fifth anniversary of Con Air I spoke with him, Kira Comerford, Clare Ellen Hope & Ian Harries.
Sequel Pitch is run by four friends (Drew Toynbee,Ross Harmston, Matt Rushton and Andy Henry). Each episode they take turns to pitch a sequel to a well known film. Ahead of the release of Top Gun I joined them to pitch my alternative idea for Top Gun: Maverick – Gooseflesh.
Rob Simpson’s podcast Director’s Uncut works in a slightly unusual way. Each week he and one or more guests discuss two pieces of work from one director. In itself that doesn’t sound too unconventional, however the director in question is selected completely at random. During each episode the new name is drawn from a lottery of talent meaning that in the space of a week he can go from discussing a master of horror to an obscure foreign director. I’m part of the regular rotation of guests having appeared to discuss Wes Craven, as well as being a regular fixture on the ‘What we’ve been Watching’ segment.
Each Wednesday join Lucy & Lindsay for a spooky slumber party as they, along with a guest discuss two films relating to one theme. The theme of my episode was Horror Video Game Adaptations, my choice was Silent Hill and theirs was Resident Evil.
Not Just for Kids
Once a week, Not Just for Kids host Russell Bailey is joined by a guest to revisit the movies we loved as children. I joined Russell to discuss one of my all-time favourite movies Labyrinth.
Hosted by Darryl Edge, Cage Rage podcast is, if the name didn’t give it away, a show all about the acting wonder that is Nicolas Cage. Edge is a super-fan of the actor, citing him as the “Golden Hog of Hollywood” and has set himself the mission to watch and rate everything that the star has appeared in. With an IMDB credit list of over a hundred titles, that’s a daunting challenge, but Edge is fast approaching the finish line. Every week he is joined on Cage Rage by a guest to discuss the next Nicolas Cage film on Edge’s journey to achieve Cage nirvana. After having first reviewed the film back in 2017, I went on to discuss Inconceivable.
